Michelson
After graduating from art school, Denis Michelson a 4th generation woodworker
dabbled in various media but his first love and life-long pursuit is
creating fine accessory objects in wood. This orientation has focused
Denis into development of a line of exotic veneered, high-style lamps
that combine fine wood with highly polished metal and metallic fabric
shades. The line of lamps has been in development over 5 years. The
line of lamps (floor, table and sconce) brings a formidable addition
to his already long list of creations, not the least of which is a nightstand
with a remote controlled-concealed halogen reading lamp that activates
as it raises and moves above the table top after the press of a button.
This piece was featured in a story that appeared in the February 1999
issue of Playboy magazine. Michelson's functional designs have received
featured articles in the Chicago Tribune Magazine on Feb 4, 2001 and
the Sun Times. From wooden framed mirrors to cigar humidors or a custom
made hanging lighting platform for a local trader and patron, all Denis'
work is finished to perfection in state of the art catalyzed lacquers
in a variety of modern and traditional colors and hues to suit the type
of wood and application.
